The BBC and Guardian have realised that Trump and BoJo are not going to play by the EU/IPCC/UN rule book.
US growth seems likely to continue, and the UK economy has not pancaked as predicted. The EU is now planning to impose further restrictions on EU economies.

The BBC is facing an Unprecedented cash flow crisis.

gc re Welsh hydro.

perhaps "the community" would care to chip in some of the build and maintenance costs ?

- or maybe even wait until the project has repaid its capex?

Innumerate, grasping entitled Welsh politicians..... looks like the default setting from where I'm sat.

I'm past fed up with the "powers xxx homes" renewable weaseling BS - a plate capacity for the turbine and a capacity factor should be the bare minimum.... - which in the case of UK hydro on average is ca. 35% as in you have to find alternative(sarc) power 4.5 days a week - which is almost a day better than windmills ....

utter BS as usual from the BBC.

- and I'm involved with a 100kW hydro scheme ....

I am interested in this as a sensible idea, and also in the motive for the story.

There are various products available for generating hydro electric power on a small scale, with lower rates of water flow falling small heights. These could be installed adjacent to most weirs on canals and rivers in the country. Small dams on small streams would be possible for individual landowners. As with wind and solar, they cannot be relied on to produce upto 100% of capacity

Why is the story newsworthy? Have the local residents NOT objected to Planning Permission in anticipation of a rather more generous share of the profits?

now that it's raining in Oz I wonder how long it'll be before the rain in summer 2020 will be declared "unprecedented"

Gone a bit quiet on the bushfire bedwetting.

9:45am LBC had an interview with XR, blockading Shell's Aberdeen offices
..free publicity for them
but Nick Ferrari made it clear he doesn't like them, so didn't give them a free ride.

It looks as though the BBC has gone full-Guardian:

"Our Planet Matters: What's the BBC plan all about?"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-51104776

"The BBC has announced plans for a year-long series of special programming and coverage on climate change.

A raft of news services and shows are planned as part of the Our Planet Matters project.

These include a new monthly Climate Check podcast from BBC Weather, and coverage of debates and events around the globe.

Digital, TV and radio outlets will all take part."

Frankly, I thought they were doing this already. Anyway, they've started as they clearly mean to go on, with today's top headline on their news website:

"Sir David Attenborough warns of climate 'crisis moment'"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-51123638

Also on the front page of their news website this morning:

"Our Planet Matters: What is climate change?"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/av/science-environment-51129250/our-planet-matters-what-is-climate-change

"Climate change: Where we are in seven charts and what you can do to help"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-46384067

[Complete with picture of swimming polar bear].

"How much warmer is your city?"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/resources/idt-985b9374-596e-4ae6-aa04-7fbcae4cb7ee

[Conveniently ignoring any reference to the Urban Heat Island effect].

"Climate change: What do all the terms mean?"

"Renewable energy: Community slams 'insulting' hydropower cash pledge"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-wales-51123848

"A community offered £1,000 a year by a firm building a hydropower project on their doorstep have said the amount is "insulting".

The river Tywi will be used to generate power at the site near Llyn Brianne dam at Ystradffin, Carmarthenshire.

But campaigners say the firm should pay 20 times that much to the community and affected landowners, based on the £1m the project would make annually."

"Facts and figures behind our climate and weather"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science_and_environment

"How is our weather affecting the planet? Ben Rich looks at the latest data to help track our changing climate in the first of our new monthly series, Climate Check."

[There seems to be some confusion here between climate and weather].

\\ Sir D Attenborough is warning us we are at a moment of crisis when it comes to Climate Change, but there is still time to do something about it, but we have put off tackling it for too long.
"As I speak, south east Australia is on fire.
Why? ...pause ..Because the temperatures of the Earth are increasing,"
To say this is nothing do with Climate is palpably nonsense" //

Baroness Brown of Cambridge is the deputy chair of CCC *
She says focusing on tackling the issues can create opportunities like in the Humber region
"more birds for our children** to see and learn to recognise
making sure the wildflowers are still there for them, that is about hope
but actually so is the *new jobs* that will created, by the offshore wind industry that are being created you know in coastal areas like Hull & Grimsby where they desperately need the economic uplift that some of these zero carbon industries are going to bring for us."
//

.."zero Carbon industry"... It isn't zero CO2 is it ?
The construction and maintenance create a mountain of CO2.

* Julia King, Baroness Brown of Cambridge, engineer and was the Vice-Chancellor of Aston University

** FFS this is piece is loaded with PR trickery
look how long it is
"our children" is appeal to emotion

I can't decide if it's dimwits in local government or dimwits copying 'n pasting at BBC web editorial....

One suggestion is to sell electricity to the grid from Hinkley Point C in Somerset once it is built.

The report said: "The Great South West has the opportunity to become a net exporter of electricity by 2030 - but that requires improvements to the grid."

well, duh...

Trying to wheedle taxpayer dosh in the lamest way imaginable.
