Surely the BBC should have a dedicated climate change channel where all the programming is their propaganda. It might then allow ,or normal mainstream TV, and by securing a smaller audience than BBC Alba, bring about its own demise.

While few people object to funding the terrestrial network, they object to funding the BBC in its failure to generate decent programmes but frittering money on its past their sell by date stars (esp those reading the news). It won't be the government who will ruin the BBC it will be the lack of people who pay. The government is coming to recognise that the BBC isn't the political king maker (if it ever was) they feared it was. The internet will increasingly be the way people get their politics.

A better system would be to put a fee for the network onto every occupied household (like a standing water charge) after which you pay for what you use. If disgusted of Tunbridge Wells want to continue to receive the youth orientated stuff, they can pay for it. My guess is that they'd make the effort to move over to subscription TV and enjoy it as much if not more. Even the BBC knows that many of their loyal customers are paying out of habit.

There seems to be a misconception about the Television licence fee (note not the BBC licence fee). Although all the funds go to support the BBC and successive governments have imposed the job of collection upon the BBC, the fee is imposed upon any household in the UK watching or recording live television transmissions (not just those broadcast by the BBC) as they are being broadcast (terrestrial, satellite, cable, or Internet).
Do you really believe any UK government will wish to suffer angry protests from Tunbridge Wells if it drives the beloved BBC to the wall?

In some ways RLB is the right choice. A lot of Labour's followers liked Corbyn's policies. A lot of their non voters liked the policies but didn't like either Corbyn's personal history/behaviour or the party's Brexit stance (which was essentially remain). At the next election Brexit will be a done deal. It would be hard to win if it's going well but... RLB is a good speaker, she looks good and she hasn't come across as irritating as Jess Philips and Rayner. Can she beat Boris? Many of Boris' previous faux pas will be old news by the next election but he's not brilliant at TV debates. His best performances were driving the JCB and silently dropping cards in that inspired advert. Perhaps his lack of stirring speeches was self doubt? We might hope that he'd have a lot to brag about next election. If things are going well, the electorate might well be loath to rock the boat. Also, there were a lot of law and order promises made that have bugged the public for decades. I'd have voted Tory just to see the curse of places trashed by temporary gypsy encampments alone.

For the younger generations, the concept of a TV Tax to pay for the BBC is more weird and old fashioned than most older people and the BBC realise.

There are adverts on every other TV Channel and Radio Station, plus You Tube, Satellite, Cable etc. The younger generations tend to be aware that there are monthly subscriptions for phones and Internet. What makes the BBC so special?

Why does the BBC need so many Guardian readers in positions of power, now that BREXIT is happening? What will they be doing with Taxpayers money?

I suspect that the BBC is on Dominic Cummings "To Do" list. If something is to be done, instigating it in 2020 would seem more sensible than leaving it until the next General Election comes around.

Re the Big Ben bongs - couldn't they rig up some massive speakers and play recorded bongs?

As for St David, I'm afraid his credibility has totally bombed IMHO. He should just shut up and retire for good from the public eye.
