Talking of online newspapers did anyone see this

SIX previously undiscovered volcanoes have been found off of the coast of Naples, all of which are situated close to the deadly Mt Vesuvius.

Describing them as volcanoes might be pushing it a bit, but interesting none the less.

I'd like an online newspaper which gave contrary views on many things. I would make making a decision about contoversial topics a lot easier. Unlikely to happen though. Only dedicated people spend time trawling round the net.
The sidebar of shame has proved useful a couple of times when quizzing and there is a "News" round with questions about reality TV and soaps, which we almost never watch.

@stewgreen

So that individual stories stand on their own merit ..and quite a few good revelations come from the Mail
and with their comments system bunk usually gets exposed

+1

Like that stupid cow yesterday moaning about being trolled on Linkedin after she posted photos of herself in a boobs exposed dress and a big arrow pointing at them.

She my have thought the DM article was a good way to promote herself and her business. Everyone I've spoken to says they would now never employ her or her business.

Dress like a slut, expect to be perceived and treated like a slut.

Maybe she's trying to be on TOWIE or some other reality TV rubbish where idiots are paid millions to be idiots watched by idiots who want to be reality TV idiots.

@Tomo "Ha ha Daily Mail, ha ha Fox News" is what I expect from Greenie Beavis and Buttheads
So I m surprised at you Tomo

In 2016 we know there is no such thing as an authoritative news source.

..and that the Guardian has fallen below the level of the sun and the BBC become incredibly biased. And the Indy is trash probably controlled by Russian propagandists.

So that individual stories stand on their own merit ..and quite a few good revelations come from the Mail
and with their comments system bunk usually gets exposed, Whereas the Telegraph is pretty bad now it has no comments system.

@tomo

Daily Mail really annoys me with their constant stream of idiotic articles, contradictory positions* and side-bar of shame/sex/sluts/paedo-bait.

They have some excellent journalists, but finding their articles hidden amongst the click-bait rubbish is often difficult.

DM website "News" is often not updated for days in many sections and articles from their best, and I assume, highest paid journalists often never appear on the website "News" page.

*contradictory positions - anti EU, anti bin police and non-weekly collections, anti recycling compulsion. Then ban plastic bags, ban Starbucks paper cups, ban micro-beads, ban nylon etc clothing.

Is Paul Dacre schizophrenic?

@stewgreen,

Madeira artificial beaches.

Sorry if my words suggested I did not believe. Your info educated me as I was not aware they existed.

BBC ..Following the UK's vote for Brexit, Japanese car manufacturer Honda has reaffirmed its commitment to the UK as a major manufacturing base, and says that Swindon-built Honda Civics would continue to be exported globally.

Honda's general manager for Europe, Jean Marc Streng, said the firm wanted "a fast decision" on Brexit.

@Pcar Re Madeira ..I made the comparison with Tenerife where I have lived in the north which is definitely a year round resort
Madeira on the other hand does have this 4 month winter ..you know when the storms come and wash away all the artificial beaches and lifts all the boats out the harbour (not every year same harbour)

My bold: that was news to me! The only beaches there I've been on were black sand.

Big oil money and all that , I exist on £10/day so in expensive countries I do campervan travel without the campervan... I do long distance walking and free camp in my hammock. So I first walked around the island ..an then cos I didn't bump into any cheap plcae to stay I alternated between 2 camping spots one at Camara Los Lobos west of Funchal and the other east at an old barn in Cancela (..it belongs to the family of the bar where I used to go to use the internet.) and other walks across the island

My bold: that is brave, iirc it is a rather rough town. I was advised not to visit the fun-fair.

Some of those at higher altitudes are very strange & backward. Nuns valley inhabitants seem to still live in C19 and exhibit in-breeding.

.
I'm sure the English Church would provide free board/camping in exchange for donated work.

The 18C is the peak average the avg low is 14C so I needed 2 woolly hats for sleeping..In Jan it can drop below 10
and like the UK it's not dry so the humidity makes it feel colder.

Hmm, high humidity makes it feel hotter as sweating has less effect.

I suggest you are misremebering the Dec 31 midnight temp
accuweather has it 18Cday 14C night ..with "Real Feel" 16C and 9C

I keep forgetting I favour temperatures ~>5C below what most UK prefer. Over 20C and I'm too hot and sweat profusely. Over 25C and it's wet t-shirt & hair. Over 30C and sit in a bath of cold water time.

btw: a great way to ensure meetings don't drag on is to ensure room is cooler than most find comfortable :)

I can say most things in Portuguese, but you know the locals have an unintelligible accent.

Madeiran Portuguese is all I've experienced.

Do you know the Telexfree pyramid scheme that we helped to get stopped ?

Not heard of that, although I did have a London based boiler house shut down. They phoned me promoting investing in Madeira (fortified wine) and making all sorts of spurious claims about relationships and authorisation. I kept asking difficult questions whilst remaining keen to invest and was passed up the superiority line. Would have loved to see last chaps face when I told him I would discuss with the Blandys on Sunday - he hung up. Had a chat with a Blandy after church on Sunday :)
