tomo, why would any sane person "bankroll" Bliar's comeback? Has he ever put his own hand into his own pocket for his own financial gain or betterment? That would go against all his defining principles, in and out of office.

A rumor:

Beardy Branson is bankrolling Bliar's comeback.

If I were a Virgin franchisee / brand renter I would be looking for alternatives PDQ - hero to zero might sound glib - but it happens and I can't think of a more effective way to destroy the Virgin brand.

1/3 of today’s Times editorial is about the suppression of Milo’s right to free speech.
..They point out that both UKIP and Green reps have spoken at the school before.
Seems to me that the school and govt have a pact to blame each other for the ban.
Logical thing would be to speak but at another venue..so he doesn’t let the pupils down. And be canny with-holding the name of the venue to keep out the LeftMob bullies.

Hugo Rifkind in the Times..long column about Trump abolishing Green policies
..”I have not heard skeptics crowing” (well we are not like you guys are we ?)
He predicts that backed into a corner DramaGreens will unite around a Green banner.

What a shame that BBC execs weren't invited - although it's unclear if The New York Times' Mark Thompson (ex BBC DG) was invited...

It might have been an "inverted" Downfall ?

Transport & Sadiq Khan? - he has the running sore of the "hybrid" Boris Bus to deal with and some transport distraction is welcome... / required.

As an operator of LPG vehicles the fact that 306 of the existing New Routemaster buses do not even meet Euro 6 emissions standards and will be granted an exemption from new air pollution standards which will apply in central London part of the Mayor’s ultra low emission zone from 2020 is simply rubbing salt into the injury of having my Congestion Charge waiver for a low pollution vehicle revoked.

With New Routemaster additional design decisions like no air conditioning and non opening windows - the competence of TfL public servants has to be called into question....

"Chancer" hardly covers it....

In other news - "I didn't invent it - I merely copied it" - recycling enterprise in Germany

Sandy S. I do believe Pieter Bruegel the Elder was born in Breda, now in the Netherlands (although he died in Brussels). In passing, have you ever really noticed that in his famous painting "The hunters in the snow" supposedly a winter scene of the the Low Countries there is a range of mountains top right. I understand Bruegel had just returned from Italy through the Alps and couldn't resist painting them in.

Don't think so, in terms of trusting Kompany a United fan wouldn't.

ACK
Pieter Bruegel the Elder, Peter Paul Rubens, René Magritte were Belgian as was Plastic Bertrand. I have a brother who taught art and quotes these as Belgians most people will have heard of.

Churchill was detested by many Scots, as he was blamed for deliberately abandoning the 51st Highland Division in France in 1940. As a result around 12,000 Scots serving with the Division were killed or became German prisoners. Less well known than Galipolli. Urban legend has it that the "new" 51st Highland Division marked their progress across Europe and Germany by painting their HD insignia on road signs along the route.

It's also interesting the only MP elected in the UK on a prohibitionist agenda defeated Churchill in Dundee during the 1920s, ironic in light of Churchill's reputation for liking a snifter now and then.
