"Commenting on the protests, Food and Agriculture Minister Julia Klockner told t-online.de on Friday that the country would face massive fines from the EU if it fails to implement stricter rules on farming methods."

[Peace and harmony in the glorious EU]."

I don't think I am the only person that got "frustrated" with UK politicians saying similar things to blame the EU, rather than accept responsibility, and doing nothing to oppose the EU.

"‘We've had enough!’ WATCH German farmers drive tractors through Berlin to protest agriculture policy"

https://www.rt.com/news/478596-germany-farmers-protest-berlin/

"Mile-long slow-moving convoys were rolled across German cities in October and November. Around 400 tractors drove across central Berlin on Friday, while similar demonstrations were held in Bremen and Kiel, among other places.

A lightning-rod issue for farmers is the government's plan to limit the use of certain types of weed killers and fertilizers to protect birds, insects and groundwater. Commenting on the protests, Food and Agriculture Minister Julia Klockner told t-online.de on Friday that the country would face massive fines from the EU if it fails to implement stricter rules on farming methods."

"Luxury travel: 50 wealthy tourists, eight countries ... and one giant carbon footprint"

https://www.theguardian.com/environment/2020/jan/18/world-tour-luxury-jet

"Despite the climate crisis, ‘no emission spared’ round-the-world holidays in private jets are selling out

Forget cruises. The super-rich have found a new way to see the world in the luxurious style of an ocean liner but taking a fraction of the time: private jet round-the-world tours.

This week, 50 members of the wealthy elite will board a privately chartered Boeing 757 to begin a 24-day guided tour of the globe, taking in Copacabana beach in Rio de Janeiro, the Galápagos islands and mountain gorillas in Rwanda.

The trip involves 10 flights, 23 nights in five-star hotels or lodges, meals in some of the world’s most famous restaurants, champagne and “every single tip”. Thrown in are tour guides, an engineer, seven cabin crew, a chef and an “expedition physician”."

[A bit like Davos and the various COPs and pre-COPs, really].

Today's outragebus
"Greenpeace, Extinction Rebellion, CND, Socialist Parties, Stop the War Coalition, SUTR, Palestinian Solidarity Campaign, Vegan Activists are listed on the counter terrorism policing extremists list with Neo-Nazi Groups"
#1Despite the name Greenpeace are not peaceful
..they nearly knocked their diesel jet boat into a boat of Russian oil workers as they repeatedly tried to come between them and the oil rig.
That is why the oil workers security opened fire on the Greenpeace boat before the GP lot were arrested.

#2 GP do pose a threat of economic damage to this country as they obstruct people going out their normal business.
#3 GP have used strong tactics like intimidation and "we know where you live letters"
#4 GP are very well funded and see themselves as above the law.

"... the importance to Germany (and hence to the EU, since the EU is Germany's poodle) of those German car sales."
Jan 18, 2020 at 8:51 AM Mark Hodgson

The German car industry does represent a success of German engineering, reliability, performance, comfort, marketing, national pride etc. It also represents a triumph of German industry's control of the EU Rules and Regulations that control it, to the detriment of others.

US car makers were too big to fail, so they have, going the same way as British car makers. On the US and Rest of the World stage, German car are seen as superior for performance and luxury. They are a very visible indicator of EU/German success.

Jan 18, 2020 at 10:48 AM It doesn't add up...
I have just bought a second hand computer to upgrade from my very old PC which I upgraded from window XP. If I had the courage I would use Ubantu. I will try it on my old computer when I transferred all my stuff. Here is some advice; you can use Ubantu from a Memory stick until you are sure you want to us it.

I hate microsoft. The computer I got had preinstalled windows 10 which I am fighting my way through. I managed to dodge opening a Microsoft Account and managed to logon with a local account but when I started the free trial windows 625 I was trapped into a microsoft account thinking I was unitizing the Word programme (I have since closed it) but be aware of all the traps if you do not want a microsoft account.
