"I presume that the UK is not the only country with a Ms Begum being given free publicity by EU media."
You didn't know that at the same time as the Begum story opened simultaneously journos just happen to bump into Jihadis
Canadian journo's a Canadian one
and US journos an American one
KTHopkins tweeted about it

hydrogen car thing
There is a difference between a report and a report jazzed up like an advert.
"And here behind the pump the hydrogen is made on site"
strange that he left out the bit about it being made from natural gas.

"the car price is at an executive level.... £66K"
"so far there are 11 filling stations in the UK"
..5 more coming over 18 months"

Mark Hodgson, I know what you mean. I noticed that one of our unfortunate souls was an expert on the Arctic...

I make the following comment with some trepidation and misgivings, since I am certainly not seeking to make political capital out of the terrible tragedy of the recent 'plane crash en route from Ethiopia to Kenya.

However, it has brought to my attention for the first time (my ignorance - mea culpa) the existence of the UN Environment Assembly, based in Nairobi. Here is the link to its website:

http://web.unep.org/environmentassembly/

The current Assembly is the fourth. Here is a link to the list of attendees (there are a lot of them!) at the third Assembly in December 2017:

http://wedocs.unep.org/bitstream/handle/20.500.11822/26379/UNEA%20Report%20March%202018%20%28002%29%20-Latest%20Update%20October.pdf?sequence=10&isAllowed=y

I can't help but wonder just how many of these UN organisations there are, and how many of them have assemblies or conferences once a year or more? I'd like to know what they achieve and what they cost. Also, what CO2 emissions do they emit in total, given the thousands upon thousands of people travelling by aeroplane at any one time to attend yet another UN conference or assembly?

The sea ice which has moved south far off St John's coast now seems to be pushed back toward the coastline.
