Agreed!

Obviously in France and elsewhere in the EU, it is acceptable for the Police to use "Non-Lethal" ammunition and firearms, against people protesting about fuel tax rises.

Would it be ok to have a Referendum/People's Vote about increased use of "Non-Lethal" methods by the Police and also civilians that are angry about paying more for everything, based on the opinions of lying scientists and politicians?

We should make a lot more use of fines. We have more onerous punishment for littering than most minor crimes. Keep fining these middle class berks until they decide that protesting is costing them too much. Fines should follow a similar pattern - pay within so many days to avoid a doubling. Still don't pay, face a summons and the punishment escalates.

It's my understanding that there are an assortment of laws that apply - the easy one is obstruction - that has been self evident and was threatened before the crowd even showed up. There are an assortment of traffic laws that only apply in London boroughs. I thought that a demonstration over a certain size in London required the organisers to agree a set of conditions - I don't see that that happened.

I don't think that Sajid Javid can order Met plod go do much at all on an operational level - he can ask.....

The police could've nibbled away the crowd and dumped them in a fenced pen in a nearby park without much trouble.

Although I don't support XR I am not calling for a change in police procedure. And nor should the Home Secretary.

Operational skills are real. They are developed by doing it. So let the police do the policing.

The Home Secretary should set limits of what level of trouble is unacceptable.
How that is enforced is best left to the practical experts.

tomo:

If plod have been ordered to go easy on XR it is now in open defiance of the Home Secretary, who has called for full use of the law.
