I'm dubious about this:

"World 'faces 80% calorie increase by end of century'"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/science-environment-50856049

But I can't help wondering why the BBC doesn't see that what it worries about is likely to be made worse by the "green" response to climate hysteria.

"‘I never understood wind’: Trump goes on bizarre tirade against wind turbines
President’s nonsensical rambling remarks about ‘windmills’ in segment from weekend speech raised eyebrows"

https://www.theguardian.com/us-news/2019/dec/23/trump-bizarre-tirade-windmills

Yes, some of what he said was bizarre and rambling, but not all of it. I'm not sure why the Guardian doesn't get this:

"There is some evidence that wind turbines have a negative impact on wildlife: a 2013 study by the Wildlife Society estimated widespread fatalities in California, including close to a million bats and more than half a million raptors, including bald and golden eagles.

The president’s final words on the subject, before hailing himself an “an environmentalist” presiding over an environment “in very good shape”, concerned the long-term aesthetics of wind turbines.

“You know what they don’t tell you about windmills? After 10 years they look like hell. They start to get tired, old,” he said, lamenting that owners of ageing windmills not replacing them without government subsidies was “a really terrible thing”."

Exclusive: Department’s brief said that ‘coordinated national action’ was needed to ward off increasing disruptions"

The idiot responsible for getting the disastrous Climate Change Act written by Friends of the Earth, now has to acknowledge one of the consequences of his own greed for power:

Friday's Yorkshire Post 'In the third quarter more renewables were used than gas'
I'm guessing that was not cos wind/solar burning, but rubbish burning and biogas to electric plants etc.

@Golf
That is absurd observation .
Germany is a colony because it needs to export to obtain sufficient company tokens.
It is simply the best of the bunch at doing this .
A mercantile champion if you will.
But it is still a bitch.
I think it's very obvious now the climate change scam is a British Baby.

[This, I think, is the UK's strongest card. Germany's economy is faltering. It has a massive trade surplus with the UK. It needs that trade if it is not going to tip into recession. And at the end of the day, whatever Macron might think, the EU is run for Germany's benefit. After all, Macron has plenty of domestic problems to worry about:]

To put it bluntly, the boot is now on the other foot when it comes to trade. I am not saying that UK problems are solved, or that all will be solved, but the reality of BREXIT actually occurring has now dawned on the EU, and, more importantly, EU businesses, traders, manufacturers etc.

The German economy probably has the most to lose financially, and the German economy is a bit short of good news at the moment, particularly with the US objecting to Russian fossil fuels being piped in to maintain German power supplies.

Now is not a good time for the EU to implement more Green Blob threats to destroy the economies that fund the EU.

Mark Hodgson, the actual human cost of bad Global Warmist scaremongering will need to be measured, but it is now being spread as an infectious disease by children

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/MMR_vaccine_and_autism

"Claims of a link between the MMR vaccine and autism have been extensively investigated and found to be false. The link was first suggested in the early 1990s and came to public notice largely as a result of the 1998 Lancet MMR autism fraud, characterised as "perhaps the most damaging medical hoax of the last 100 years".[1] The fraudulent research paper authored by Andrew Wakefield and published in The Lancet claimed to link the vaccine to colitis and autism spectrum disorders. The paper was retracted in 2010[2] but is still cited by anti-vaccinationists.[3]

The claims in the paper were widely reported,[4] leading to a sharp drop in vaccination rates in the UK and Ireland. Promotion of the claimed link, which continues in anti-vaccination propaganda despite being refuted,[5][6] has led to an increase in the incidence of measles and mumps, resulting in deaths and serious permanent injuries.[7][8] Following the initial claims in 1998, multiple large epidemiological studies were undertaken. Reviews of the evidence by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention,[9] the American Academy of Pediatrics, the Institute of Medicine of the US National Academy of Sciences,[10] the UK National Health Service,[11] and the Cochrane Library[12] all found no link between the MMR vaccine and autism.[13] Physicians, medical journals, and editors[14][15][16][17][18] have described Wakefield's actions as fraudulent and tied them to epidemics and deaths.[19][20]

An investigation by journalist Brian Deer found that Wakefield, the author of the original research paper linking the vaccine to autism, had multiple undeclared conflicts of interest,[21][22] had manipulated evidence,[23] and had broken other ethical codes. The Lancet paper was partially retracted in 2004 and fully retracted in 2010, when Lancet's editor-in-chief Richard Horton described it as "utterly false" and said that the journal had been deceived.[24] Wakefield was found guilty by the General Medical Council of serious professional misconduct in May 2010 and was struck off the Medical Register, meaning he could no longer practise as a physician in the UK.[25] In 2011, Deer provided further information on Wakefield's improper research practices to the British Medical Journal, which in a signed editorial described the original paper as fraudulent.[26][27] The scientific consensus is that there is no link between the MMR vaccine and autism and that the vaccine's benefits greatly outweigh its potential risks."

"EU countries gear up for post-Brexit trade battle
Michel Barnier’s ticking clock will pose extra problems for the EU in phase two of Brexit."

https://www.politico.eu/article/eu-countries-gear-up-for-post-brexit-trade-battle/

"A senior German official said that a “standard” trade agreement with the U.K. could still be reached: “We have already shown that you can negotiate a lot in a short time if you set yourself clear goals."

“The more the negotiating partners are of the opinion that they should deviate from the standard in this particular case, for example because the level playing field conditions are different or something has to be added, the longer this takes,” he added."

"Macron gives up presidential pension, asks for Christmas truce on strikes
Two weeks of industrial action against the president’s proposed pension reform have paralyzed France."

[Plus, EU unity is something of a figment of the collective imagination. What with Poland, Hungary, and now this:]

"Romania seeks EU ‘flexibility’ on budget and energy tax, says finance minister
Romania’s pro-EU finance minister calls for Europe’s help to overcome ‘a difficult moment.’"

gc, the BBC also has the story. Note the headline, which one might think is, not very subtly, linking the fires to coal use:

"Australia fires: PM rejects 'reckless' calls to limit coal industry"

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-50888786

"Australian PM Scott Morrison says he will not make "reckless" cuts to the nation's coal industry, despite criticism of his response to climate change and a deadly bushfire crisis.

Australia is being ravaged by bushfires which have killed nine people and razed hundreds of homes since September."

[And much, much, more in similar vein].

Common sense during a genuine emergency.

https://www.theguardian.com/australia-news/2019/dec/23/morrison-government-to-underwrite-two-new-gas-power-stations

"The federal government has announced it will underwrite two new gas-fired power stations, with Scott Morrison saying it may still greenlight coal-fired generation for Queensland and New South Wales."

Even as Australia suffers through a record-breaking heatwave Morrison said the government would continue to explore all power options and would not be deterred by “lots of shouting noises” and instead would listen to “those quiet still voices”.

“You need the whole mix, there is no doubt about that,” Morrison said.

“Firstly, there is a proposal for coal still up in north Queensland which we are accepting a report on very, very soon, there are some others in New South Wales and we will see where that goes.
