Silencing dissent

Is that a brown shirt?A group called Ecojustice has called for an investigation into global warming dissenters, under Canada's Competition Act. Their case, if you can credit it, is that the act forbids anyone from making misleading statements when selling stuff or for promoting their business interests.

Interestingly, the groups targeted are Friends of Science, the International Climate Science Coalition, and the Heartland Institute. Given that none of these are businesses, the investigation promises to be rather short.

Interestingly, one of those involved is Danny Harvey, an academic from the University of Toronto. He gets a mention in the Climategate emails, where he was involved in Hockey Team efforts to dish out retribution after the publication of the Soon and Baliunas paper (Hockey Stick Illusion p. 406). I understand that he is now an editor at Climatic Change too. I imagine you have to take care about what you submit to that journal.

It is time to report UK Green racketeers to the Advertising Standards Agency. Can the DECC be included? It is shameful some of the claims being made with their renewable lies about unreliability. But is it unlawful?

I have just been reading Dr Kendrick"s blog on the same thing happening to Doctors who recommend not taking statins. I thought London Spy on TV at the moment was far fetched, maybe not!

This kind of thing just smacks of desperation. It could be that the alarmists genuinely believe their own hype and think that they need to do whatever is necessary to save the world. Or, it could be that they are slowly coming to realise that the game is well and truly up. Their doomsday predictions are failing to come true and are going to carry on failing to come true, sooner or later the truth is going to come out that the whole thing has been a massive waste of time and money. Where does that leave the alarmists when the Western World starts looking for someone to blame?

Similar to the RICO20 in the US. Another sign the warmunist dogma is failing ever faster. They get ever more frantic, revealing their 'true' selves. Cannot win the debate, so try to forcibly silence the other side. Isn't working despite MSM cooperation. Darned internet thingy for global communication and easy ebooks, plus wayback machine for indelible memory about who did/said what when (long list of blown warmunist claims/projections).
Global warming is the first great science/ policy debate of the internet era. Fascinating how it is playing out. Ragtag uncoordinated small band of rebels looks to eventually beat the establishment. Of course, it helps a lot that Ma Nature seems to be on the rebel side, and that warmunists have no sensible/viable energy alternatives.

In dealing with people like the above, a bit of humour is invaluable, since they've no answer to it. Nominations are now open for Climate Prat of 2015. Go for it.

So did the current drought in California cause the deaths of 21 people murdered by Islamic Extremist husband and wife team in San Bernadino California.

So is President Obama and Prince Charles quite so sure that Climate Change is still the biggest threat to the world.

As a resident of Alberta Canada I agree with the above comments regards desperation, many of the names attached to the document are serial offenders and legends in their own minds.

Some readers might find the following of interest.

An expose of the reality of mismanaging the electricity sector in Ontario, by the Auditor General for the province to boot. Now that is something that should be reviewed under the Competitions Act.

Astonished! ASTONISHED! That four Canadian university professors would try to censor ideas that they found repugnant.

Okay, I'm not. These days, academics' commitment to individual liberty and tolerance for dissenting views is as thin as the hair on that guy's head.

I wonder if these upstanding totalitarians considered that this could backfire. Perhaps not. If they are so blind to the illiberalism of their own actions, they are likely as blind to others' possible reactions.

Jamspid @ 7.12: Although you may have jumped to conclusions about this incident I think you are grasping at a reality that is only just beginning to sink in and, by providing perspective, will bring about the demise of the global warming delusion. Read the following carefully and completely.

It will explain why the Indian Government is so obdurate in its view that the economic development of its country trumps global warming. Why the insane desire of the progressive west to maintain the third world in poverty is, even now, returning ruin upon its authors.
"Jihad is the only way forward"
"he knows that if he dies in the path of god - he goes to god"

As long as there is endless supply of young men to whom these epithets are meaningful and real, this struggle will continue. If you believe that the greatest challenge to the world is the weather in 2100 you are undergoing a rude awakening. I will not live to see the apotheosis of this - strangely, I regret that!

Never underestimate the law of Unintended Consequences. If these clowns think they can boss, intimidate and threaten opponents into oblivion they'll very likely be in for a rude awakening. Perhaps some on the sceptic side should make it happen?

Dec 3, 2015 at 8:31 PM | Unregistered CommenterCheshireRed

What is the chance that this will rebound on them just as the RICO call in the US did on those making it?

As others have said this sounds very much like the green blob are unwilling to go quietly when they are proved wrong.

It is a Professor Danny Harvey, contributing to The decline and fall of the university. Here goes the free speech; it is being replaced by new Nuremberg Laws.

Jamspid @ 9.04: "did climate change cause the potato famine in Ireland?
Change did not. The 1840's were severe throughout Europe, this was the last knockings of the little ice age.
The subsequent warming stimulated economic and agricultural growth, with industrialisation, into an era of unprecedented prosperity and the hegemony of Europe (and America) across the globe. This "climate change" created modern world. Pity that so many yearn for the good old days.

A bit of cherry picking on your part, looking at just the top of his head. If you look more closely, you'll see that the hair on the sides is fairly dense, so, on average, you could say he's thick headed.

No, that was Dan Quayle.

Two edged sword. I reported a council initiative about community renewable energy to the advertising standards authority. They said it was 'political' and couldn't act, but the offending material was withdrawn.

There is a law against false advertising. Use it.

Sorry to go on, but this is astonishing - here's what they want (cut and pasted from the document):

PART V - REQUEST OF THE COMMISSIONER OF COMPETITION
A. A thorough, rigorous inquiry is needed....

B. Criminal conviction or civil liability could have a beneficial deterrent effect
We believe that a public finding of guilt or reviewable conduct could have a beneficial deterrent effect
for four reasons.
First, either a finding of criminal guilt or reviewable conduct would demonstrate that climate science
misrepresentations are contrary to law and harmful (since false and misleading representations for the
promotion of business purposes are per se harmful). Second, a fine for a criminal conviction in respect of each climate science misrepresentation could deter the denier groups from continuing to make such
misrepresentations with relative impunity. Third, the remedial options open to a court after a finding of
reviewable conduct could deter and directly prevent future climate science misrepresentations. For
example, a court could order that the denier groups not make the same or similar climate science
misrepresentations for 10 years. That court could also levy an administrative monetary penalty on the
denier groups. Fourth, donors who fund the denier groups to promote their business interests on the
assumption of public anonymity would think twice before doing so, knowing that their identity could be
revealed in public court proceedings.

Reading B.O.B's post, and noting the focus on "climate science misrepresentations", I believe a certain Dr Mann may be on the hook here. It was certainly a misrepresentation on his part to claim his NOAMER PCI as the "dominant pattern" in the NH proxies: when calculated properly, as M&M revealed, it accounts for only a small percentage. Additionally, a misrepresentation remains in the literature since no corrigendum to his PNAS 2008 paper clarifying the lack of a skillful reconstruction prior to AD1500 has been published, let alone a retraction, which would under the circumstances be more appropriate.

Come to think of it, perhaps this is not such a nasty, small-minded piece of totalitarianism after all, provided it is applied evenly-handed.

One of the authors is Tseporah Berman, former Greenpeace royalty, now adjunct at York University Environment... York's Law department a few years ago refused a deal with Balsillie, a very green billionaire who bankrolls CIGO with Soros and Rockefeller Brothers...
Then, Balsillie and his goons went on a national media campaign of denigration of York Law... Wonder who is bankrolling this York program...

Too true, the greenies go absolutely mental if you point and laugh. They hate people having fun at their expense. Ken Rice is a typical example.
