Is that a brown shirt?A group called Ecojustice has called for an investigation into global warming dissenters, under Canada's Competition Act. Their case, if you can credit it, is that the act forbids anyone from making misleading statements when selling stuff or for promoting their business interests.
Interestingly, the groups targeted are Friends of Science, the International Climate Science Coalition, and the Heartland Institute. Given that none of these are businesses, the investigation promises to be rather short.
Interestingly, one of those involved is Danny Harvey, an academic from the University of Toronto. He gets a mention in the Climategate emails, where he was involved in Hockey Team efforts to dish out retribution after the publication of the Soon and Baliunas paper (Hockey Stick Illusion p. 406). I understand that he is now an editor at Climatic Change too. I imagine you have to take care about what you submit to that journal.

It is time to report UK Green racketeers to the Advertising Standards Agency. Can the DECC be included? It is shameful some of the claims being made with their renewable lies about unreliability. But is it unlawful?
I have just been reading Dr Kendrick"s blog on the same thing happening to Doctors who recommend not taking statins. I thought London Spy on TV at the moment was far fetched, maybe not!
This kind of thing just smacks of desperation. It could be that the alarmists genuinely believe their own hype and think that they need to do whatever is necessary to save the world. Or, it could be that they are slowly coming to realise that the game is well and truly up. Their doomsday predictions are failing to come true and are going to carry on failing to come true, sooner or later the truth is going to come out that the whole thing has been a massive waste of time and money. Where does that leave the alarmists when the Western World starts looking for someone to blame?
Similar to the RICO20 in the US. Another sign the warmunist dogma is failing ever faster. They get ever more frantic, revealing their 'true' selves. Cannot win the debate, so try to forcibly silence the other side. Isn't working despite MSM cooperation. Darned internet thingy for global communication and easy ebooks, plus wayback machine for indelible memory about who did/said what when (long list of blown warmunist claims/projections).
Global warming is the first great science/ policy debate of the internet era. Fascinating how it is playing out. Ragtag uncoordinated small band of rebels looks to eventually beat the establishment. Of course, it helps a lot that Ma Nature seems to be on the rebel side, and that warmunists have no sensible/viable energy alternatives.
In dealing with people like the above, a bit of humour is invaluable, since they've no answer to it. Nominations are now open for Climate Prat of 2015. Go for it.

As a resident of Alberta Canada I agree with the above comments regards desperation, many of the names attached to the document are serial offenders and legends in their own minds.

Never underestimate the law of Unintended Consequences. If these clowns think they can boss, intimidate and threaten opponents into oblivion they'll very likely be in for a rude awakening. Perhaps some on the sceptic side should make it happen?

A bit of cherry picking on your part, looking at just the top of his head. If you look more closely, you'll see that the hair on the sides is fairly dense, so, on average, you could say he's thick headed.

A. A thorough, rigorous inquiry is needed....
B. Criminal conviction or civil liability could have a beneficial deterrent effect
We believe that a public finding of guilt or reviewable conduct could have a beneficial deterrent effect
for four reasons.
First, either a finding of criminal guilt or reviewable conduct would demonstrate that climate science
misrepresentations are contrary to law and harmful (since false and misleading representations for the
promotion of business purposes are per se harmful). Second, a fine for a criminal conviction in respect of each climate science misrepresentation could deter the denier groups from continuing to make such
misrepresentations with relative impunity. Third, the remedial options open to a court after a finding of
reviewable conduct could deter and directly prevent future climate science misrepresentations. For
example, a court could order that the denier groups not make the same or similar climate science
misrepresentations for 10 years. That court could also levy an administrative monetary penalty on the
denier groups. Fourth, donors who fund the denier groups to promote their business interests on the
assumption of public anonymity would think twice before doing so, knowing that their identity could be
revealed in public court proceedings.
An interesting point, how do organizations such as Heartland differ from businesses?

Reading B.O.B's post, and noting the focus on "climate science misrepresentations", I believe a certain Dr Mann may be on the hook here. It was certainly a misrepresentation on his part to claim his NOAMER PCI as the "dominant pattern" in the NH proxies: when calculated properly, as M&M revealed, it accounts for only a small percentage. Additionally, a misrepresentation remains in the literature since no corrigendum to his PNAS 2008 paper clarifying the lack of a skillful reconstruction prior to AD1500 has been published, let alone a retraction, which would under the circumstances be more appropriate.
Come to think of it, perhaps this is not such a nasty, small-minded piece of totalitarianism after all, provided it is applied evenly-handed.
