Balcombe evictions

Apparently one of the Balcombe sites is in the process of being cleared by police after suggestions of criminal behaviour.

Police have tweeted:

Our officers have just entered a camp set up in a Christmas tree plantation/woodland close to the Cuadrilla site in Balcombe.

The protestors are apparently squealing that it's an illegal eviction. This sudden concern for the law seems a little bit unlikely to me.

The protestors are filming their own agents provocateurs at work here.

Protestors arrested on earlier days all seem to be getting unconditional bail. Not even a demand that they steer clear of the Cuadrilla site.

More as I get it.

The more lunacy the better, the public get turned off by it. Look at the way the London occupy camps made not one jot of a difference to anything.

A Balcombe Lane siege perhaps.

One of the pictures on the BBC website of the protesters the other day was of several of them holding up a mock turbine blade, bearing the legend MORE WIND...
I can only asume that the people in the picture were volunteering to live on a diet of brussels sprouts - as clearly the message had nothing to do with energy or electricity generation...

Are there many still there? I'd have thunk they'd be on their way to the Leeds Festival by now.

sherlock1,

Fugitive methane emissions aside it could just be someone who has had a look at Gridwatch and seen we're getting only about 1GW from our windmills...

These people and the UK govt need to see what proportion of the jobs and growth in the US economy is attributable to the shale oil&gas sector. It makes the rest of their economy look downright anemic.

But lunacy is all they know how to do. What an excellent contribution. It's giving scepticism a good name.

Having said which, the BBC has relegated this off its front page, with a link under 'England' to Balcombe anti-fracking protest camp draws to a close which makes it all sound terrifically civilised. I think someone realised how many own-goals have already been scored.

Now the police should make it clear that if these idiots return, they will again be forcibly ejected. Furthermore, they will be charged with breaching the peace.

"illegal eviction"

How so? It's still trespass.

All there needs to be is a disgruntled farmer driving down the road with a muck spreader accidentally on, anyone know anyone in the area? Ahem.....
