I hope this isn't a list of 'deniers' that we should be sitting in the stocks and hurling insults at. That would not be consistent with your previous statements.

I hope this isn't a list of 'deniers' that we should be sitting in the stocks and hurling insults at.

Surely the point of a list of MPs voting in favour of the bill is to encourage their constituents to vote against them at the next election.

Zac Goldsmith- just goes to show that a rich daddy and an expensive education cannot make a silk purse out of a sow's ear.

Edwin C., MP's, though usually member of a Party, are voted in as individuals. Their voting record is just as important to Party Whips as to constituents. MP's are answerable to those that vote, not to the Party they belong to.

The Climate Change Act had only few voting against, so the list of "deniers" would include much of the current parliament.

The fact that Zac Goldsmith is tolerated as a member of the Conservative Party speaks volumes the current malaise the party is in.

Maybe they could form a choir.

The fact that there were only eight complete idiots among the entire Tory Parliamentary Party, gives us a tiny cause for hope.

I hear James Hansen left NASA to spend more time with the environment

I hear Richard Black left his job at the BBC to spend more time with the environment

I hear several DECC officials are now spending more time with the environment.

Now it appears that:

Peter Aldous (Waveney) - wants to spend more time with the environment

David Amess (Basildon) - wants to spend more time with the environment

Peter Bottomley (Worthing West) - wants to spend more time with the environment

Zac Goldsmith (Richmond Park) - wants to spend more time with the environment

Jason McCartney (Colne Valley) - wants to spend more time with the environment

Caroline Nokes (Romsey and Southampton North) - wants to spend more time with the environment

Matthew Offord (Hendon) - wants to spend more time with the environment

It's incredible how politicans like Yeo with blatant vested interests are getting away with it. If it involved any other issue the BBC and Guardian would be all over them, and they would be resigning in disgrace within days. But because their actions are advancing the green cause the left (in politics and the media) is happy to turn a blind eye, and so they get away with it.

They seem to be Gummerites and WWF captures...

http://www.peteraldous.com/renewable
"Waveney MP Peter Aldous this week has welcomed the news that Vattenfall and Scottish Power Renewables, the joint venture partners behind the East Anglia Offshore Wind Zone, have awarded over £15 million in contracts to 28 businesses in East Anglia."

Aldous is Chair of the "All Party Parliamentary Group for Intelligent Energy."

David Amess repeats the gospel according to WWF
http://www.davidamess.co.uk/news/earth-hour-acted-out-david-amess-mp:

"In the UK we are consuming three times our fair share of the planet’s natural resources. Our reliance on high carbon fossil fuels like coal, oil and gas is overheating the atmosphere and affecting the climate. The future of our planet relies on us moving away from unsustainable energy sources and on to renewable energy."

http://www.guardian.co.uk/politics/2011/feb/24/coalition-lobbyists-all-party-groups
"The Guardian's investigation reveals for the first time which MPs sit on the most groups. Topping the chart is veteran Conservative Peter Bottomley, who is a member of 151 groups; 65 more than fellow Tory David Amess, who is second with 86 memberships."

Tuesday 6 March 2012 ..Sir Peter Bottomley MP switches off for WWF's Earth Hour to call for a strong outcome at Rio environmental talks.

http://www.building.co.uk/sustainability/over-25-mps-back-building’s-green-for-growth-campaign/5050124.article 14 February 2013

"More than 25 MPs have signed up to an early day motion in parliament expressing support for Building’s Green for Growth campaign.

The motion has been backed by 27 MPs so far, including former Liberal Democrat leader Ming Campbell and Conservative MP Peter Bottomley.

The political support comes after Tory peer John Gummer, the chair of the committee on climate change and former environment secretary, backed the campaign."

Aldous, Goldsmith, Nokes and Offord are on the Environmental Audit Committee, currently chaired by Joan Whalley, previously chaired by Yeo, before he became chaiman of the Energy and Climate Change Committee. Seamless move from one influential committee to another.

Next week, June 12th, the EAC will discuss "Progress on Carbon Budgets", with musician Aubrey Meyer, Global Commons Institute; Professor Andrew Shepherd, University of Leeds and Professor Myles Allen, University of Oxford; Professor Julia Slingo, Chief Scientist, Met Office and Dr Jason Lowe, AVOID programme, Met Office

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Zac_Goldsmith
"In December 2005, David Cameron appointed Goldsmith as the deputy chairman, under former environment secretary John Gummer, of a Quality of Life Policy Group.

The report's recommendations included increased taxes on short-haul flights and highly polluting vehicles, with the proceeds being used to cut the cost of clean alternatives; rebates on stamp duty and council tax for people who improve the energy efficiency of their homes; and a moratorium on airport expansions."

Sounds familiar....

I agree that Zac Goldsmith is an odd fit for the Conservatives, but that probably says more about the party's dubious attempts to reivent itself than his own abilities/views. He's a long-time committed environmentalist and whatever we think about that, we shouldn't be surprised he voted the way he did. Whether this is enough to get him voted out of Richmond, I doubt it. The reason he's there is that it's a safe seat, right?

Jun 5, 2013 at 11:27 AM | Unregistered CommenterCharlie Furniss

Charlie,,

Richmond represents the demographic of the current Conservative Party political leadership. He won't get voted out for sure.

But the majority of other electorates are seeking an outlet for their Conservative values and increasingly finding a home at UKIP.

I've added in the chosen subject, and highest educational level obtained by the candidates (Wiki).
Science or Engineering not much in evidence.

■Peter Aldous (Waveney)- Land Management (Undergraduate Degree)
■David Amess (Basildon)- Economics and Government (Undergraduate Degree)
■Peter Bottomley (Worthing West)- Economics (Undergraduate Degree)
■Zac Goldsmith (Richmond Park)- ....... (A level)
■Jason McCartney (Colne Valley)- Broadcast Journalism (Postgraduate Diploma)
■Caroline Nokes (Romsey and Southampton North)- Politics (Undergraduate Degree)
■Matthew Offord (Hendon)- Rural Governance and Economic Development (Doctorate)

Plus the minister:
■Tim Yeo (South Suffolk)- History (Undergraduate Degree)

Jun 5, 2013 at 2:43 PM | Unregistered Commentermichael hart

My mistake. Yeo is not a minister. He is chairman of the Climate Change Select Claptrap Committee.

David Amess is unfortunately my local MP (Southend West not Basildon), so this is of no surprise to me.

Ah Caroline. Now I'm not one to repeat a rumpour - so listen the first time.

In June 2010, a newspaper alleged Nokes and a family friend had been filmed by a camera hidden in a hotel ceiling, that Nokes found the camera, and handed it to the Police who witnessed illegally filmed sexual activity. However, there was speculation the allegations were untrue and Nokes had been set-up in return for payment by a national newspaper. Another national newspaper stated the Police would have been obliged to invesigate any covertly obtained footage, and asked why Nokes would have handed Police such compromising footage, and why they did not then investigate. This raised questions over whether the camera existed, or if it did, if it contained covertly filmed sexual activity. The paper which made the original allegation then confirmed there had been no camera hidden in the room. Successful legal action followed. Nokes said she had 'been betrayed by a friend' and her family and then husband dismissed the allegations. In 2012 Nokes stated claims of a relationship were inaccurate and entirely false. A critic of Nokes, who had previously declared 'war' on her, subsequently alleged she confessed the story was true
