Has nobody noticed that tv weather forecasters are now at pains to point out that, e.g.: 'It will be just about zero in town centres, but in rural areas could be minus 3C...'
Ah - so that'll be the Urban Heat Island effect then, that didn't used to exist..??

I don't think anyone has ever disputed the urban heat island effect. The dispute is over whether it affects trends - is the town centre always 3 degrees warmer than rural areas; have thermometers been moved from rural to urban areas or vice versa, thus influencing trends...etc.

Did you check the skepticalscience video from the link? At 0:30 seconds, the narrator claims that 'natural variabilty' caused an uneven rate of temperature increase, such variability arising from 'major volcanic eruptions'. Even a high school student would know that volcanoes lie outside the climate system.

The reason for this cartoon about the Union of Concerned Scientists will become clear in a couple of days.
