I could never quite understand why warmists are so alarmed. Of course the global temperature trend is upward. It has been since the last glacial period!

Poor you!
My children, who of course are now taller than me, are not backward in explaining to me that it is natural that my spine is contracting therefore reducing my height.
So if I put "lifts" in my shoes am I a living walking example of "hide the decline"?
If so where do I go to make a claim or possibly receive a grant?
Green Sand. What you are experiencing is only a temporary lull in your Height Change. We cannot explain the missing height and it is a travesty that we cannot, but I am certain that in the coming decades and, certainly by 2100, you will be alarmingly tall.

That nails it absolutely perfectly, Josh. (As did Matt's comment). Trenberth seems incapable of recognising the fallacy he trumpets: 'hottest decade of the past century' does not disprove 'warming has stopped.'
He (and his fellow Mannian signatories) failed to see the irony in arguing from authority ('we're climate scientists - trust us!') while ending with a statement about economics — in which they possess zero expertise and authority. But then being qualifies 'climate scientists' qualifies them to declaim on any discipline relating to climate.

Brilliant cartoon, Josh. Why do we laugh about the claim? Because we know how the body works and the stage of growth for this body. In other words, we know the physical laws of human growth which must be taken into account when evaluating any such claim. Yet the Warmists care nothing for such laws and are quite happy to compare any two numbers on a chart, even a growth chart, with nary a thought for the physical laws that constrain that comparison.
Oh, OK. I get it now. It's like what I was saying:
I am 45 years old (ish) but I am still getting taller! The trend is still upwards! My average height in the first 15 years of my life was smaller than my average height in the second 15 years of my life, which was smaller than my average height in the third fifteen years of my life.

I climb a mountain for six hours, then collapse and die. But now I’m higher than I was at any time during those six hours. So I must still be alive – and climbing.
I run a nice hot bath for about ten minutes or so, then turn off the taps and get in. But hang on - according to the trend, this bath is getting hotter and hotter and will also soon overflow and ruin the downstairs ceiling. I'll have to call a plumber - this is an emergency!

Must think of some exercises to make me taller again. Or perhaps I ought to select a different starting point ... yeah, that'll work!

You need to open a couple of bottles of nice champagne in the bath so the CO2 creates a blanket, traps the heat and the resulting feedbacks heat the bathwater for you. Or after drinking the champagne, you cease worrying.
