Tony and the scientists

Tony Newbery has also been blogging about the Harrabin affair. See the comments thread for a link to some of his old email correspondence with Joe Smith, in which he seeks an answer to the vexed question of whether the BBC's characterisation of the attendees at the climate change seminar as  "the best scientific experts" was correct.

On which general subject see Judith Curry's latest: Expertise: breadth vs depth. Nothing is more important to get to grips with intellectually to solve the climate 'problem'. Judy's honesty about the journey she's taken since turning up at Climate Audit to answer questions about hurricanes and being criticised for knowing almost nothing about the hockey stick is as always immensely helpful to begin to unlock the issue for Joe Public.

I wonder how much the 'experts' paid to present their stories to the broadcasting elite?

Well the scientific experts (ie atmospheric physicist types )did not include Roger Harrabin, (English) Dr Joe Smith, politics?, and PHd geography)

the BBC have busted their charter, this and sponsorship, but no one seems to care..

The more I have read about this affair over the last week or so, the more it has become obvious that Dr Smith genuinely believes he can only be acting for the best possible motives. In addition, he is also clearly convinced that no right-thinking person could resist what he seems to consider his cheeky (for which read 'smarmy') charm.

His is a natural reflection of the moral high ground the left always assumes it occupies: anyone who disagrees with them must, by definition, be either sadly misinformed or actively malicious.

It is a source of increasing pleasure to see these fondly held and complacent certainties crumble in the face of the real world.

troll central has been quiet lately....how long does it take to re-program Hengist and Zeds? I guess the pasting that hengist is taking over at Amazon might be worrying him.

Agouts,

Totally agree with you.

Careful, don't invoke the devil whilst he/she's temporarily quiescent...

James Evans

this may be a clue - from "BH - mail on sunday" post

"Hengist.

Respect where it is due. Your one star review of Donna Laframboise's Delinquent Teenager, the first Amazon UK review you have penned, has already eclipsed the standard for one stardom authors of climate sceptical books, and I mean that as a compliment. I even believe you read it, and put much effort composing it. You deserve more than the miserable 4 out of 27 votes currently logged.

But you forget one thing about BBC airtime, Lord Lawson was a longstanding and respected Chancellor of the Exchequer and that high office entitles him on that basis alone to BBC airtime, even though it might be distasteful to you, regardless of his Foundation, or his daughter's delectable confections

Patience diugenes, it take time for the propaganda machine to acquire an agreed common narrative!
