Might the hearings not happen at all?

Guido Fawkes, (the top UK political blog, for the benefit of non-UK readers) is reporting that BBC political teams have been told not to go away over the weekend, this warning representing a red-alert for a potential general election announcement.

I think I'm right in saying that if an election is indeed called, Parliament will be dissolved and the CRU hearings will not take place.

This seems noteworthy:

"Clearly, the language in the leaked e-mails could suggest that the scientists may have inappropriately manipulated the data to support the theory of human-induced climate change and attempted to suppress other data that contradicts this theory"

Hi Bish,

Can we have a thread on ideas for influencing the pols - eg writing to your MP.

I've just been reading the Tory Low Carbon Economy document and I don't know whether I should laugh at the stupidity or cry that they believe it.

Here is a taste:

An electricity internet
The way our energy is produced and transmitted around the country is stuck in the 1950s and ’60s:...
..Moving to an electricity internet unlocks many opportunities.

Here is my favourite bit

This is not a dream of a return to the simplicity of the middle ages. Nor is it mission impossible.

No - it's not the middle ages - it's Middle Earth. Hobbitts and TeleTubbies powered by windmills. With smart grids for when the wind stops blowing. Or blows too hard.

Are they on drugs?

Jack

I've been trying to interest a couple of shadow ministers in answering questions on climate change. If they bite that would be an opportunity to discuss these matters. If they don't I'll post a thread up.

My explanation was cockup, not a leak from a Labour administration that reached a Liberal Democrat Chairman of a Commons Select Committee a day before Guy Fawkes reported rumours from inside the BBC. Don't think it flies, but it's a fun speculation. Much more likely that Willis had forgotten they'd included Beddington on Monday.

An election,
When it does eventually come, what is the choice?

We have 3 major parties of big interfering state,
Then we have multiple parties of national and religious socialists who are even more collectivist.
Then we have the ultimate in collectivist lunacy and light bulb changing; the green bogey party.

I can feel a spoiled ballot paper coming on already.

Just for the record, Brown (fascism) is what you get when you mix green and red.

Maybe Phil was warning him Monday won't be a "pleasure"...

If an election is called next week that's fine: it means I shall be out of the country for a week of the "campaign".

To return to another thread for a moment, I was half-asleep yesterday evening during the BBC News, but distinctly heard that fellow Balls, in a discussion of the poor little girl whose parents had starved her to death, refer to clamping down on home schooling. Never waste a crisis.

Cultural Enrichment has given us some novel ways to bring up our children, or not as the case may be. No doubt it happened before, but it does seem that extreme abuse is a little more common among our, of course welcome, new citizens.

Shame Ladbrokes has stopped taking bets...

"electricity internet"

Wow. Multiplexed ADSL along 400kV lines, and through transformers. New Tories, new physics...

Sorry - they mean a grid, don't they? Rather like what we've got, really.

Feb 26, 2010 at 1:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterJames P

I think they mean SmartGrid but think its another interweb thingy. Toom nay arts graduates in politics

Ahhh should of course have been "too many" not intended to be some arcane Scottish dialect

Feb 26, 2010 at 4:27 PM | Unregistered CommenterArthur Dent

"SmartGrid"

Of course. Two words without a space, so it must be clever. It will have to be, to make all those rooftop windmills substitute for a real power station...

The election will mostly likely fall before 23rd April (a Friday), because that is the day when we get the growth reports for the next quarter - and these will may show Britain going back into recession (a double-dip).

Since Brown is fighting the election on the theme that letting the Tories in would risk a double dip recession, it would be disasterous to his campaign, for the statistics to reveal that he himself had already presided over one.

Since April 22nd date is the last likely date April 15th or April 8th seem plausible.

I'd bet he calls the election in early March, but mid March is possible.
