A new low

Competition among environmentalists to reach new lows of taste and decorum is always intense. A few years ago we had the 10:10 campaign's executions of schoolchildren. A couple of weeks back Lord Deben was comparing climate sceptics to Jehovah's witnesses. It's an battle of witlessness that seems to have no end.

Today's entry in the competition will be right up Lord D's street, with the Australian Youth Climate Coalition trying to insinuate that coal miners are akin to paedophiles.

A climate change action group has canned a suggested billboard image after critics accused it of comparing coal mining to 'paedophilia'.

The Australian Youth Climate Coalition (AYCC) is hosting a billboard competition on its Facebook page for a sign to be displayed at Brisbane Airport when G20 leaders arrive next month.

One proposed billboard featured the slogan, 'Don't let the coal lobby get their dirty hands on our future' and a picture of a child with large, wrinkly hands covering her mouth.

Appalling. Has the voice of youth really come to this?

Charming Quark asks: Didn't Oreskes, Dessler and Deban comapre sceptics with the tobacco industry?

Why not? The scientific front folk for the tobacco industry simply moved over to climate issues when that tent folded and the pay went away. Joe Bast of Heartland was and remains the late Joe Camel's best friend. You could look it up.

What a truly shameful man is Lord Deben to denigate Jehovah's Witnesses as he does; the schoolboy bully laughing at what he doesn't understand and ignorant of the needless distress he might cause. I am not a JW myself, but my neighbour is and she is one of the kindest people I have met. He disgusts me.

The irony is of course ignoring the bits that dont fit is precisely what CAGW believers do.

I am not on Twitter myself, thank goodness, but reading the tweets in the link truly depressed me...

Context & Perspective means saving your energy for more important stuff
I can't really be outraged at poster activists are dumb enough to consider, but don't actually use.
- The poster has not actually been used it was one on the ten proposed in a competition and they withdrew it when challenged.. so you have to give them some credit for that.
.. I thought all that was so obvious I didn't bother stating it yesterday.

Enough of the big oil and tobacco smears already, Josh.
