Lord Beaverbrook: as a joke, it is a tired and well-worn joke; a joke that it would be more humane to hasten the death of, rather than allow it to thresh about in its death-throes. When will people accept that the end result of a rise does tend to be higher than what preceded it. A climb up Mam Tor, in the Peak District, may take you higher than you have ever been, that day, and you can see that you are higher than anywhere else visible to you. However, that does not necessarily make Mam Tor the highest you have ever been, the highest you are likely to go, or higher than anywhere else in the Pennines, let alone other mountain ranges around the world – there are even peaks and troughs on that summit that make this analogy even more fitting!

While I do hope that the rise does continue, I do not expect it to be calamitous in any way whatsoever. What I do fear is that it will become a fall, and, like Mam Tor, the descent could be quite precipitous; then disasters are more likely to occur.

Whatever does happen, the raw data we now have unarguably show that the original climate models upon which this fear has been built, and on which our civilisation is being sacrificed to, are absolute and utter bunkum.

SandyS, it would be cheaper to use the helicopter fuel to make electricity, especially with falling oil prices.

Helicopters used to De-Ice Wind Turbines from a Swedish newspaper, translation includes

The operation requires three people: A helicopter pilot, an operator to control the sprayer, and a person at the truck to rapidly refill the empty tank.

The cost to deice a turbine is equivalent to two days of electricity.

The question of ice on wind turbine is sensitive, and there are no official figures on the amount of electricity that is lost each winter in the Swedish wind farms.

As an alternative, some turbines have an electric heating foil on the rotor blades to prevent ice growth.

For those who can read Swedish the original is here

It'd be unfortunate if they got stuck in ice and had to re-enact the other Shackleton adventure eh?.

The miserable overnight performance of wind (and solar...) hasn't attracted any MSM coverage in the UK.

Radical Rodent, I tried to post earlier. Really sad to hear this news.

When I was first sufficiently curious to find out whether I was the only person to think Manns Hockey Stick was not a fair representation of the history and archaeology I knew, Bob Carter's name popped up a few times, so I read more. This was before ClimateGate.

A very courageous man, brave enough to stand up and put his reputation on the line, and stand up against the mob.

jamesp & Robert Christopher, the BBC has not flagged up the fact it is below freezing, and there is no wind to generate anything. It is now past 6pm, so no solar either.

If the BBC was relying on Unreliables for power, they would be off air. I wonder how they can be so hypocritical.

I think the BBC's vision of the news and future is obstructed by the Green elephants in the BBC. They seemed to have squashed the common sense out of the place.
