GC: do polar bears swarm? Perhaps they herd, or maybe flock – certainly, something like flocking will help increase their numbers. Then again, they could have parliaments or, perhaps, charms… What IS the collective noun for polar bears? A murder? An ordeal? How about a terror? A tribulation? Or even a trial? A judge? A jury? – or, best yet, an execution!?

Twitter is forcing this at me as the #1 story
"More than 11,000 scientists
declare ‘clear and unequivocal’
climate emergency
The scientists warn in a new report that the changing .."

PR evolution
Global Warming
Rising Seas
Climate Change
Climate Emergency.

What is an emergency ?
If you have lung cancer and know you will die within 6 months that is not an emergency.

An emergency is something that will bring catastrophe
but that is actually pretty quickly fixable

I guess definitions are close to tgat

However the PR trickery of the libmob are seeking again to redefine a word.

If anyone had a basic feeling for maths they would know that Paris is rubbish at reducing CO2.
If you were serious about reducing CO2 you would really cut back consumer lifestyle. not just window dressing.
That means sharing your house with 20 people
getting a job within walking distance. Not opening the gates to immigrants to come into high consumption countries etc
Not splashing out on an greenshopping like buying an eco-car.
Few greens show they are serious.

gc, I've often thought that the way to wean kids off climate change hysteria is to make them live like they mean it. Even giving them my childhood 'luxury' would make them think twice, let alone that of a Baby Boomer and beyond. Lots of locally grow sprouts and other seasonal veg. Knitted jumpers, hand me downs, patches. ripped clothes sewn up to keep out the cold, not worn for 'coolness'.

If enough parents ban Christmas and presents to save the planet, Santa may have some surplus stowage on his sleigh to get her back to Sweden, assuming the swarms of Polar Bears haven't eaten all the reindeer

Mark my wife "she who should be listened to" was an english teacher, and more than a decade ago instituted a life-skills programme. She realized that children at her school with poor reading skills would have particular problems negotiating the outside world with its assumptions that people can readily negotiate complex forms and instructions. Commonly they can't. Interesting that the pupils you heard about seem to recognise this.

Be a shame if some global warming impeded Greta's movement wouldn't it?

"Maybe the brainwashing isn't working after all?"

Or maybe the kids are bored with the subject without questioning it. If Climate Change has been mentioned in every lesson and assembly since primary school they probably know the basics. That's all the BBC knows too.

How many times must you hear that fossil fuels warm the planet before you think you've learnt that already?

The problem for the alarmists is that, unlike in most subjects, you cannot go into further detail without breaking the founding beliefs.

Some people think Global Warming is a religion. But it lacks that depth.

Mike, she's not averse to travelling by rail. She should have gone the other way, to Alaska and thenthrough Russia. Or maybe she could tag along with one of those mad teams who venture into the Arctic to prove how warm it is.
