I have to tip my hat for the thread title!

Good news. A calm and thoughtful commentator and analyst. I also suspect him of being a fan of the singing of Jerry Jeff Walker, and that is a big plus in my book!

Tom, Mr. Fuller, is too civilized for this game, a calm and reasonable voice, cool logic and always unfailingly polite - I am surprised by his change of heart but not displeased.

I think my comment above is a bit too cryptic. Here is the post by Tom Fuller with a link to a song by Jerry Jeff: http://thelukewarmersway.wordpress.com/2013/04/24/long-open-thread-and-bleg/

JJ takes me back to the 1970s, when I was studying in London and came across his singing through a friend. Not really relevant!

HaroldW: Yes, it was dynamite, wasn't it?

This is good news. Tom is one of the most rational and thoughtful observers of the climate scene. It will be a pleasure to read his thoughts and observations once again.

Alternative title "This is major Tom to ground control." In a non-derogatory sense, of course.

Agreed, the thread title is a gem.

"what I came to think was that climate change is real. It is probable that humans contributed to the dramatic warming of the last quarter of the 20th century"

This sort of talk is the problem, it's true ................ but how true?

"climate change is real" - does anyone think the climate has ever been static? Has even the most extreme sceptic ever claimed the climate doesn't & has never change?

"humans contributed to the dramatic warming of the last quarter of the 20th century" - but how much did human (fossil fuel) CO2 emissions contribute to this warming? Because that's what matters, that's why our energy infrastructure is being decimated, that's why I'm paying tax on top of tax on top of tax.

And what about the dramatic lack of warming in the first part of the 21st century.

I don't see why people are blowing smoke up this guys arse, it's just weasel words, meaningless drivel that is used every day to empower evil people.

I have come to think that sunshine is real. It is probable that sunshine contributed to the dramatic warming of the last quarter of the 20th century - we must ban sunshine

Hi Jaffa. It's.... this (using thumb and index figure) true! I measured it scientifically!

In my estimation there are few whose words are more measured than Tom's.

I went to the website and learned why we "lukewarmists" are having such a tough time. It's because God hates us (Rev. 3:16).

Thanks all, and thanks Andrew for the plug. Keep at it--you're a force for good.
