Sep 15, 2014 Greens Deep pocketed billionaires are being urged to splash the cash on global warming campaigns rather than any other of the causes so dear to green activists.
The call to hike climate change spending is unprecedented in its scale, with the signatories – all winners of major environmental awards – taking out a full-page advert in today’s International New York Times.
They include former Green Party chairman Jonathon Porritt, Bianca Jagger and Tim Smit, founder of the Eden Project of exotic ecosystem-domes in Cornwall and which hopes to prompt a “tipping point” in climate action.
I hear rumours that there is significant measure of climate fatigue among US philanthropists, so this may well represent a distress signal from our environmentalist friends, who have long enjoyed fabulous wealth.
Look out for attempts to make up the shortfall from taxpayers.

Apparently the Green schemes he has invested in have turned in to money pits and the returns have been non existant.
Are we to take it that the problem that they are facing is that, despite wall to wall propaganda, nobody believes them any more? If that is indeed the case, I can't see how spending even more money on even more propaganda is going to convince anyone. Meanwhile, the climate carries on ignoring them just like the rest of us.
I’m endlessly bemused how so many people could make such a mess of a potentially dangerous problem. Any chance that the issue could be taken seriously is drifting away because it has become the preserve of loonies and mouth frothing activists. Countless shallow people have used CAGW as a platform to promote their egos and now it’s turned out to be a wickedly complex issue they’re backing away so as not to be caught out being boring or, gods forbid, be asked to do their bit and actually reduce their footprint.
The consensus side are suffering from excluding the pragmatic people who say ‘hang on, let’s think this through’. I’ve reached the point where I don’t care if CAGW is real or not because I can see no possibility of substantial action while dreamers and idiots are building the upper floors of a building that doesn’t have a ground floor, let alone foundations. Might as well enjoy the high CO2 lifestyle like the celebs but without the hypocrisy of thinking I’m better than anyone else.

I once met the MD of Branson's green energy venture; jojoba and other silly biofuel projects, all producing more CO2 than fossil fuels.
I guess the "tipping points" they have in mind would be dumper-truck loads of cash. Contrasted with us wicked deniers who receive ours via pipelines and double-hulled supertankers, allegedly.

Not to forget that "climate science" has discredited itself.
Too bad because it would have been useful to understand an important aspect of our world, not to forget the interesting question of whether there actually is any danger.
These vacuous, sanctimonious and hypocritical celebs can at least choose to waste their money on the latest cause celebre. Unlike the poor of this world who are forced to hand over what little they have to green obsessed governments. Let them fritter away as much cash as they like.

That of course is already happening, plus all the money skimmed off from public sector bodies such as the BBC and Met Office, plus from "charities" such as RSPB and FoE.
I suspect that money from philanthropists is but a drop in that ocean.

Philanthropists tend to want to a difference with their money, not pour it away. The money spent to date on climate research and propaganda has produced virtually nothing but lists of excuses for failure and denunciations of any critics.
As Kevin Marshall states, philanthropists are less gullible than politicians, because it's their own money.

Good idea, lets properly address global warming......uuum, nope can't think of anything polite at the moment.
Branson is finally no fool and his relative lack of action indeed speaks volumes.
There are many negative impacts of NGO parasitism. Wealthy benefactors who would have funded actual research into things like science or medicine are instead being pressured into funding publicitiy campaigns and political elections to promote climate agendas. The money is not going into research. The money is not giong into problem solving. The money is pouring into the coffers of non-productive people and groups who only want to control the public sqaure, not improve it.

Agree these limousine humanitarians should be urged to fight ebola, and as hard and furious as they fought AIDS. Millions raised for ALS using buckets of ice water, and Nigeria can't treat ebola patients waiting outside the clinic doors. In hindsight the ALS effort seems trite given the current global threat. Where's Bono?

As someone said above - and concerning - the Ebola epidemic, [in relative terms] just a small sum is all that is needed for, shelters and access to clean water and sanitary conditions, nothing other than regular and round the clock re-hydration and cleanliness but it gives people a fighting chance to survive a horrible viral infection.
Liberia, every week this awful contagion spreads - cases are doubling and infected people are having to be left out on the street because simply - there are no beds for them and the authorities cannot cope. 400 becomes 1600 at the months end and a human catastrophe looms - for plainly this Ebola outbreak is getting out of control.
Priorities? Damn it all - global warming is a boon, BUT Ebola is killing men, women and children now - whither Branson and Hollywood?

Greens wanting money? I can't believe that. Wanting to control large amounts of money is such a sordid, Capitalist idea. Green groups would obviously just give away any surplus that they had over their essential expenditure.

I can't help you there but the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation has given $10 million so far and has pledged another $50 million. And I congratulate the Gates for making such a response.
