In a bid to outdo the 10:10 campaign the SkS kidz have launched a Hiroshima app. What a great idea!

I propose a corollary to Godwin's Law to cover the abuse of historical episodes of genocide and/or mass murder for purely propagandist purposes.
As noted by somebody on twitter, the SkS app has the mushroom cloud in the background for the specific reason of instigating scare in its audience because of the thousands and thousands who died. It's the ultimate example of the climate activists' penchant to nourish out of dead people.
With respect I think it goes far beyond Godwin. Call it Morabito's Law. There's something that reeks very badly here, in the persistence of denier, now this. These people must be stopped.
Let's call it "John Cook's" Law. It has a certain ring to it does it not? :)

Here's an alternative way to visualize the energy imbalance, rather than Hiroshimas/second...Last I knew, energy imbalance estimates were on the order of 0.6 W/m^2. Imagine an 11 ft-by-11ft room (11 m^2). Put a 7 W night-light bulb -- an older incandescent bulb, not one of the newer LED bulbs which draw much less power -- in the ceiling. Sit on the floor, and sense the heat coming from the fixture.
There's an alternative, tastier metric here.

The Dominic Standbrook Cold War Documentary this week featured a BBC TV Drama Documentary from 1984 called "Threads".It was about a fictional outbreak of the third world war and a Nuclear Attack on the city of Sheffield.
The first part was rather slow young couple expecting a child planning their wedding with US Soviet hostilities building up in the background.Then the actual Nuclear explosion was quite spectacular in an era before CGI.Milk bottles melting a woman bystander watching the mushroom cloud wetting herself stunt set peices then lots of stock footage of buildings exploding burning firestorms etc
The shocking part was the final bleak act the whole surviving population revert back to medieval feudalism and eating rats.The Children were deformed and educationally sub normal.Monty Python Jabawocky Holy Grail without the laughs
The main idea in "Threads" was Nuclear Winter.
An idea originally put forward by Carl Sagen.
A nuclear war could throw up so many millions of tons of Smoke particles that it would blot out the sun for decades and stop agriculture and mankind rebuilding.
I read up on Nuclear Winter and it was fashionable theory propagated by the left and the peace campaigners during the cold war obviously ,but was disproved in the aftermath of the Desert Storm .Saddam Hussian ordered his retreating forces to set fire to the Kuwait oil wells .They predicted that the smoke would hang in the atmosphere over the Middle east for decades causing a 10% reduction in temperature over the middle east .The pollution washed out in less than 10 days.
Even the Dinosaurs were still around a few thousand years after the Meteorite impact and Prolonged Winter that was supposed to have wiped them out.
Climate Change and Nuclear Winter have a lot common old ideas put forward by scientists and some cases the same scientists and media with a political axe to grind and not really theoretically or experimentally provable.
Maybe if we can properly discredit old scientific urban myths from the past we can discredit scientific urban myths from the present
The only part of Threads that has really upset me was that Victoria O keeffe young actress who played Jane Beckett born after the Nuclear attack and barely survives the aftermath was herself killed in motorway car crash outside Liverpool with another young couple and their baby in 1990 and she was only 21 .Such a waste of a young life.
PS On a happier note anybody just watch the Channel 5 Documentary about Polar Ice breaking ships.

The SkS crowd spend their entire time in damage control. Everything they do results in an ever larger crisis. Gotta wonder if, unknown to themselves, this is not precisely their only objective...
I enjoyed the Bob Tisdale video that Bish linked to. The famous radiation imbalance is 0.6 W/m².
Bob Tisdale points out that the uncertainty on this figure is +/- 17W/m².
Josh is good but he misses the main physical characteristic of Cook and Nuccitelli, The fixed grins. They are always grinning like dogs with two cocks in every picture you see of them. They do not have the demeanour of serious men with weighty issues on their minds. Quite the opposite. I have seen one picture where Cook and Lewandowsky (who in his videos normally looks like a constipated toad on methedrine) cackles merrily into the camera his bright yellow teeth glinting in the sun.
It doesn't add up that such doom-mongers would be so cheerful.

Climate alarmists think that the public is ignoring them because the presentation of the 'message' isn't scary enough, just like a crooked property developer thinks his high-rise condo plans get knocked back because the bribe wasn't big enough.
They lack the self-awareness needed to step back and take a broader look. Hence, exploding 10:10s, Hiroshimas and all the other nasty BS which turns people even further off their 'message'.

Is the figure the app comes up with accurate?
How did they measure it?
I can't calculate anything in energies, but I can't believe the figure shown on the app. Heck, I'm not even sure if the picture is of the app or a mock up.

Threads is a very grim BBC TV Drama about a Nuclear attack on the city Sheffield at the height of Reagan Thatcher Cold War era paranoia made in 1984.More miserable than Eastenders.Even by today's standards it still horrifically shocking.
A nuclear war is not winnable but it is survivable.Question is would you want to survive it then rebuild afterwards.
Lefty BBC thought Threads would finally win the election for CND supporting Neil Kinnock but Mrs Thatcher was finally ousted by her party ushered in the era of EU, Free Market supporting John Major ,Tony Blair and his clone David Cameron and we still spend 30 billion pound on Trident Nuclear Submarines.How many Wind Turbine would that buy.

23rd September 2014 will be the 30th anniversary of the showing of Threads.Good time to reevaluate it.
