From the Top. It's Secret - Josh 246

And this isn't a cartoon about this story which Nigel Lawson never talked about in the Spectator.

Glad that's settled.

Brilliant. It needs a wider exposure.

Welcome to Climate Club. The first rule of Climate Club is: you do not talk about Climate Club

Yesterday upon the stair,
I met a man who wasn't there
A meeting wasn't where he be
At the Royal Society...

Does anyone have any idea how they will enforce their ban on disclosure?. Do they have police or judicial powers?

Shurly shomebody will spill the beans.

By the way I'm sure the brains who gather here can do far better at a good dose of high power mockery. Josh fires the starter's pistol.

hey, we've seen this before ;)

'Now look here, Lawson - very kind of you to bring these other people - didn't know there was more than one person with your views. Mr - Dyson..? Has he brought a vacuum clean... oh, right - not the same Dyson. Fair enough. And Professor Lindzen - from - America..? Do they have climate over there..? Good heavens - never knew...
'Anyway - look - this carbon dioxide. Terrible stuff. Poisoning the planet. Sending the temperature sky-high. (What's he talking about, Nurse - essential for creation of chlorophyll in plants..? I thought that was what they put in toothpaste...).
'Stuff you're talking. Very dangerous. Whole of Western civilisation could be improved if this got out. Secrecy absolutely essential. Whole industry dependent on keeping the faith. God knows what would happen - hundreds of climate scientists on the dole.
'So - thanks for coming - food for thought and all that. Yes, yes - we'll have a serious discussion about it when you've gone over another biscuit. Don't forget - mum's the word....'
Closes door.
'What a load of rubbish, eh, what..? Good job our motto is 'Take no-one's word' - ha ha ha....'

Come on guys...they are just following the rules...the Cheat-ham House rules that is..

I posted this on page 2 of the Right Royal Showdown thread, so apologies to anyone who has read it already (and I may as well apologise in advance to those that haven't):

There was a Society led by Sir Paul Nurse
who thought Lord Lawson and sceptics a curse
to keep them at bay
he agreed to meet them for one day
but in secret, so he just came off looking much worse.

Shub: Good point. Will this be the hallmark of Climate 2013, looking back?

Omno: The Cheat'em House Rules I guess that becomes.

Scientists, and the RS in particular, should NEVER hold in camera sessions. This is entirely against the spirit of what they are about. I hope someone recorded the meeting and that it is made available.
People who operate in secrecy have something to hide.

And no eye holes to denote they haven't a clue where they're headed. Tee hee!

"Does anyone have any idea how they will enforce their ban on disclosure?."

Yes - they've told Harrabin & McGrath to report nothing.

Gosh, absolutely, one can quite see their point ...

But, seriously, those RS guys really are a bunch of horrible, chiselling parasites.

Iapogus, it's a worthy effort. But limericks should scan as well as rhyme. Why not

"A Society led by Paul Nurse

but in secret, which made him look worse."

Osseo - yes, that's much better, thanks.

I am generally crap at poetry, so don't mind getting a panning.
My fondness for McGonagall means I don't worry much about scanning.

btw it is lapogus with an el not an eye, as in grouse.

Nurse, "The screens!".

I thought it was funny.
