Some forms of partisanship are more equal than others.

Sep 14, 2010 at 6:30 PM | Unregistered CommenterZT

There seems to be a misunderstanding on partiality. The inquirers, all of them, are supposed to be impartial seekers after the truth of the matter. They hear from both sides of the controversy in a presumably relentless and dispassionate search for the truth.

The complaints of skeptics are analagous to a solicitor for the prosecution saying "our side was prevented from presenting its case" in a courtroom. It is expected, appropriate and not hypocritical in any sense that a partisan present such an argument.

Public injustices such as these are supposed to be revealed by the press. Are there so few honest journalists left?

Partisan on behalf not of disinterested scientific inquiry but of Luddite sociopaths' propaganda actively seeking the demise of some 85% of Gaia's global human population ("seething maggots" was how the wretched U.S. Science Czar John Holdren put it in 1974). Paul Ehrlich, Holdren, Peter Singer, James Hansen, Keith Farnish and others of this ilk are death-eaters, Thanatists who "love death more than life" as jihadi Muslim terrorists are wont to scritch. However low-key, rational they seem, they despise post-Enlightenment industrial/technological civilization, and they want you dead.

Partisan....The new "D" word?

bish -
once again, many congratulations. it's truly amazing, tho, that the MSM seem to publish dozens of CAGW stories daily, yet cannot send reps to the Press Conference.
it's fascinating, for example, that channel 4, which aired the hugely popular "great global warming swindle" has shown no interest whatsoever in anything connected to climategate or any of the other gates.
am guessing the fin times was not present. what do monbiot, randerson, louise gray, harrabin, black et al think, when they read about one scam after another related to CAGW, such as:

14 Sept: FinTimes: Guy Dinmore: Anti-mafia police make largest asset seizure
Italian anti-mafia police have made their largest seizure of assets as part of an investigation into windfarm contracts in Sicily. Officers confiscated property and accounts valued at €1.5bn belonging to a businessman suspected of having links with the mafia.
Roberto Maroni, interior minister, on Tuesday accused the businessman – identified by police as Vito Nicastri and known as the island’s “lord of the winds” – of being close to a fugitive mafia boss, Matteo Messina Denaro.
General Antonio Mirone, of the anti-mafia police, said the seized assets included 43 companies – some with foreign participation and mostly in the solar and windpower sector – as well as about 100 plots of land, villas and warehouses, luxury cars and a catamaran. More than 60 bank accounts were frozen.
Until his arrest last November, Mr Nicastri, based in the inland hill town of Alcamo, was Sicily’s largest developer of windfarms, arranging purchases of land, financing and official permits. Some projects were sold through intermediaries to foreign renewable energy companies attracted to Italy by generous subsidy schemes...
The renewable energy sector is under scrutiny across much of southern Italy. Some windfarms, built with official subsidies, have never functioned.
A separate probe in Sardinia has involved political allies of Silvio Berlusconi, prime minister. They have denied bribing officials to win tenders....

obviously a few thousand quid to cover your time and expenses is a much bigger issue!

Bishop your partisanship is about Truth... just like E M Smith said he was, to me today: not against a certain poster, but for truth.

As you know, HSI critics can only attack you, they cannot fault the truth of your book. If Fred Pearce thinks being partisan about truth is hypocritical when pointing out others' conflicts of interests, I say, don't be ridiculous.

"channel 4, which aired the hugely popular "great global warming swindle""
Sep 14, 2010 at 11:09 PM | pat

Hi Pat, you've got your wires a bit crossed on this one. It was only popular amongst deniers, as it was something you could unequivocally support, with no actual scepticism applied to it, as it agreed with the stance you had.

Real people, rightly dismissed it as a contrarian piece, fatally riven with errors.

"Real people, rightly dismissed it as a contrarian piece, fatally riven with errors" | ZedsDeadBed

Strange as it was viewed by many of the public and did have very good viewing figures for Channel 4.But I suppose you think the general public aren't "Real People" because they watched that evil.

But there again who said trolls like you are "Real People"? I genuinely feel sorry for you.

OT, sorry Josh. But ...

Should the Bishop ever decide that ZDB be excluded from his comments sections, it won't be as a result of the 'contrarians' and the 'deniers' ganging up to create a martyr whose intellect or depth of knowledge we can't match. Instead it will simply be a group of people who just got heartily sick of the insults and the condescension, the snideness and the disrespect shown for no good reason by a guest of this place.

And btw, it's not just here and it's not just AGW. Google reveals that ZedsDeadBed of Truro UK is a persistent offender across many blogs and on a variety of subjects. But all with the same unpleasant MO, and *never* with any sort of positive contribution. She/He would not be missed.

another one, bish MONTFORT! -

15 Sept: UK Express: CLIMATE CHANGE: FAILURES OF GLOBAL WARMING PROBES ‘LET DOWN PUBLIC’
But yesterday’s report by sceptic Andrew Montfort said: “Despite the seriousness of the matters revealed in the Climategate e-mails, the inquiries into the conduct and integrity of scientists at the CRU were rushed, cursory and largely unpersuasive.”
He said terms of reference were “vague or non-existent” and climate sceptics were under-represented on the inquiry panels. He added: “None of the inquiries have performed their work in a way that is likely to restore confidence in the work of the CRU.”...
(Lord Turnbull ): “The public has been fed a particular variant of the climate change story with many of the caveats stripped out. There is a much richer but more complex story to be told which recognises there are strong natural variations upon which manmade emissions are superimposed.” The UEA said the Lord Lawson report “offers nothing new”.
A spokesman said: “Three independent reviews have found in favour of the integrity and honesty of the scientists in the Climatic Research Unit and there is an overwhelming scientific consensus that the world is warming and that humankind is having a marked effect on the rate of warming.
“CRU’s research points to conclusions on global warming which are replicated by separate data sets being analysed by independent researchers in other parts of the world. CRU’s published outputs have been subject to expert peer review for more than three decades and remain open to scrutiny by anyone.”

Google reveals that ZedsDeadBed of Truro UK is a persistent offender across many blogs and on a variety of subjects.

I have looked at his record as well, and it is pretty extensive. One can only imagine what his inner workings are all about (and as a psychologist, I have), but I would not vote to exclude him, but instead encourage everyone to ignore his taunts. He will go away if he realizes he is irrelevant. He is a prime candidate for an ASBO, which I would bet has already been lodged against him for previous behaviour, but without a real name one cannot go to the Truro police with a complaint. So ignore him.

Still, he is an interesting personality, one that lends itself to fiction. My current writing effort features a large soul-eating spider that is running about Valhalla causing all sorts of problems for Odin. Zed is slowly showing up in its personality, little by little. Writers must find inspiration where they can, you know. I still haven't decided on name it Zed or not, but I am leaning towards it.

Bishop

If you want, you could trace ZDB via his IP address. He is breaking several UK laws to my understanding. However, that is for you to decide. Josh says some of the other blog meisters are filtering input from certain IP addresses. But all you need is his IP and a chat with the Truro police. He must have a record with them by now.

If if was a mere year ago, no sceptic-penned articles at all would have been published by the MSM. At best, an MSM blog column or two, derided as flatearthers by the political establishment.

Sep 15, 2010 at 9:02 AM | Unregistered CommenterPharos

What we are witnessing is the demise of popular climate catastrophism as espoused by Monbiot, Randerson, Ward, etc, and it being replaced by a public narrative that is more sceptical in tone and manner.

Ordinary people no longer accept the word of scientific authoritarians, such as the IPCC, who are driven by ideology, nor listen to advocates who have a political agenda. The public have adopted the stance of "Nullius in Verba" in dealing with climate zealotry, translating that into a popular idiom, "Yeah, right!"

The real story of Climategate is the ever growing gap between our political masters, the scientific establishment and the electorate. People were fed lies over Global Warming by both scientists and politicians, they realise that post Climategate, and importantly growing numbers of the electorate now want the political system to reflect their growing scepticism in government policy.

It is worth noting that a Partisan is also a weapon, a medieval long-handled spear that was used by lowly soldiers to skewer the nobility. This report by AM punctured the pompous, Oxburgh, Russell, Willis, Rees, Boulton, et al.

Seconded I'm sorry to say, unless you take up my suggestion and give ZDB its own thread but no other. I know it's fun for a while and even teaches one interesting things and even reminds one of basics which is good. But then it becomes like a trip wire.

And heck, Bish, I want to bl**dy well say thanks for your outstanding review. It's not only brilliant scientifically and legally and ethically ie truth matters, it's a cracking story line too.

What I like about Fred Pearce's review is the comments and their ratings.
