Mrs Hill says the same things as Mrs Bratby!
This is a subject that worries me a lot. The tidal wave of propaganda at schools:
* Healthy eating
* Fairtrade
* Nelson Mandela
* Climate change
* Rainforests
* Endangered species
Just about any topic is approached from a "right-on" (aka leftist) angle.
So they don't learn about animals - they learn about "endangered animals". It's a not real-life visit to the local woods to see the crocuses and daffodils - no it's a video of the remote amazon rainforest which is apparently "in danger". It's not Winston Churchill - instead it's Nelson Mandela.
A maths test starts "Hassan and Rajinder want to cook a low-fat snack ..."
What do other people think? Can we band together to "kick propaganda out of schools"?
A nice idea Jack. My own 6 year old's school proudly announced in a recent letter from the head that they were now officially an Eco School, having attained enough ticks in boxes to "qualify". Their aim of course over the coming months is to achieve an even higher level of officially recognised eco-ness.
How they found the time to save the planet, alongside compiling endless diversity statements, inclusiveness reports, ensuring that all community stakeholders are catered for in a tolerant and non-discriminatory carbon neutral real help for fair people now sort of way, oh, nearly forgot, and teaching those pesky kids something too, is truly admirable.

Have sent the head teacher a graphic of historic temps, not the government since 1850 effort..

Don't know how controlled you were last night but this piece of 'settled science' re atmospheric carbon propoganda on the NASA NSF GLOBAL program is sheer emotive propaganda. GLOBE is a NASA NSF program aimed primarily at primary and secondary schools internationally.

Jack Hughes: this worries me too. I'm hoping I'll be able to counteract it by teaching critical thinking and a healthy disrespect for authority.
They don't even wait until they're born. In antenatal class the other day the interesting stuff was interrupted by a hippy^H^H^H^H^H guest speaker who gave us the hard-sell on re-usable nappies for twenty minutes, managing to plug the organisation Women's Environmental Network in the process (check out their exciting report, Gender and the Climate Change Agenda).
Needless to say, only consideration for Mrs Fisher prevented me from heckling.

The way to watch Avatar is to turn your mind off and submerge yourself in the 3d effects. As to thee rest of Dances with Smurfs the best parts were stolen from Poul Anderson's "Call Me Joe." Hopefully someone will n ow be able to make a good 3d sf feature.
